2010 Visionary Award goes to a film that embodies our theme this year of "making a difference" in our world. These films and their filmmakers are risk takers, as they explore social, political issues that are important to all of us. And the winners are:
- * I am a Man, directed by Jonathan Epstein
- * The Cartel, directed by Robert Bowdon
- Honorable Mention to: Street Justice, directed by Donna Roman Hernandez
2010 Washington, DC Filmmaker Award goes to a filmmaker that presented a film in the 2010 festival, has made their mark on the Washington, DC area and has shown excellence in filmmaking. And the winners are:
- * Michael Million, director of Tenure
- * Eric Espejo, director of Ghosts Don’t Exist
- Honorable Mention to: David Gerson, director of Ultra Violet for Sixteen Minutes
2010 Cine Latino Award goes to a film made by a Latino filmmaker that reflects the hearts and minds of the Latino people and culture. And the winners are:
- * Immigrant Nation: The Battle for the Dream, directed by Esau Melendez
- * Danzak, directed by Gabriela Yepes
- Honorable Mention to: Buro-Infierno, directed by Daniel Sametz
2010 World Cinema Award goes to a film that was presented during the festival that gives us a glimpse into a world outside our own. And the winners are:
- * Middle East Cinema: All Birds Whistle, directed by Roy Khalil
- * Snow & Ashes, directed by Charles Oliver Michaud
- Honorable Mention to: Beyond the Pole, directed by David L. Williams
2010 Comedy Award goes to a film that made its mark on the Jury for its excellence in the comedic film genre. And the winners are:
- * Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Undead, directed by Jordan Galland
- * James K Polk was %^&*ing Awesome!, directed by Adam Bertocci
- Honorable Mention to: Ajumma! Are you Krazy???!, directed by Brent Anbe
Audience Awards – before each session, our audience members were given a ballot which listed all the films in a session, they were then asked to cast their vote: Excellent, Good and Fair. The ballots were then calculated on a percentage of excellence. And the winners of our 2010 Audience Awards are:
- * For Best Animation: Electropolis, directed by Allison Neil, Amanda Stocker, Adam Pockaj, Adam Trout, Dimas Mohammad, Hank Choi, Giorgio Mavrigianakis, Debbie Yu, Kevin McCullough, Jason Walmsley, Dan Seddon, Dawnson Chen and Ki Eun Suh
- * For Best Short narrative film: All Birds Whistle, directed by Roy Khalil
- * For Best Documentary film: The Cartel, directed by Bob Bowdon
- * For Best Feature film: Tenure, directed by Michael Million
And our last category, the Grand Jury Awards were issued by our Jury made up of industry professionals, including International Cultural Ministers, which is a unique perk of being in our nation’s capitol. There were four Jury teams: Animation, Documentary, Feature, Short, which also determined the Best Student film. And the winners are:
2010 Grand Jury Award for Best Student Film:

- * Time Machine, directed by Mark Kendall
- Honorable Mention to: Michael Saints, directed by Katie Mahalic
2010 Grand Jury Award for Best Animation:
- * The Word Cutter, directed by Izu Troin
- * Mu – Emptiness, directed by Ria Ama
- Honorable Mention to father and daughter animators: Back to Life, created by Mike Salva & Odysseus & the Cyclops, created by Emily Salva
2010 Grand Jury Award for Best Short:
- * Poi Dogs, directed by Joel Moffett
- * Medicine Man, directed by Himkar Tak
- Honorable Mention to: Soul Searchers, directed by Brad Spencer
2010 Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary:
- * Quantum Tamers, directed by Chris Mullington
- * Dive!, directed by Jeremy Seifert
- Honorable Mention to: Between Grass and Sky: Rhythms of a Cowboy Poem, directed by Jerry Dugan
2010 Grand Jury Award Best Feature:
- * Crack Willow, directed by Martin Radich
- * The Be All and End All, directed by Bruce Webb
- Honorable Mention to: Beyond the Pole, directed by David L. Williams
