2009 Highlights

Performances will begin between 9:00-9:30pm (after the films end) and will last approximately one hour. The Thunder Grill is located in the corner of the main level of Union Station, one floor up from the Phoenix Theater, with a spectacular view of the Capitol building. Come enjoy a drink and a casual discussion of the films with some great local music talent.

Wednesday, March 4th:

Mister Science - Deep House


Mister Science, otherwise known as Bryan Johns, has been an electronic Musician locally and Internationally for over 7 years time. Known for his productions with various local vocalists, as well as his talents as a performing DJ, be sure to expect the cinematic, to compliment the Festival's theme. Tonight he will be performing a House music set, ranging from the deep, to the minimal.

Changamire - Jazz

Friday, March 6th:

Icarus Rising - Rock


Icarus Rising, based out of Washington, D.C., sounds like reggae strawberries dipped in pop-rock chocolate, with a few mysterious spices added for variety. Imagine the sounds of Sublime, Barenaked Ladies and The K.G.B., infused with double blasts of youthful energy and innovative melody.

 

Saturday, March 7th:

The Stoney Run String Band - Bluegrass


The Stoney Run String Band has been making music together for more than twenty years. Their styles include bluegrass, gospel, "newgrass," and anything else that strikes their fancy. Distinguished by strong vocals and demanding instrumentals, here is a band with an ear for a really great tune. Stoney Run has played in venues all over Delaware and Maryland, including The Mainstay in Rock Hall and Boordy Vineyards. Their greatest pleasure is when people begin dancing along to the music. The infectious rhythms that characterize Stoney Run's music make this a common occurrence.

Julian - R&B


Meet Julian….. Known for his beautiful tone, silky vocals and smooth stage presence, Julian “THE GOLDEN VOICE” has captivated audiences across the east coast. A multi-talented performer, Julian is a prizewinning singer, songwriter, piano player, dancer and actor. In March 2006, Julian won first prize at the National Association Of Teachers singing competition in WHERE; a year later he won the first annual Artscape "Cab Calloway Competition." Last year, Julian was proud to release his first album, “Better Late Than Never.”

Born and raised in the DC suburbs, the energetic trio 'the Very Small' bring a special blend of intelligent funk-rock with musically diverse blues undertones to the nation's capital.Inspired by everything from Red Hot Chili Peppers to The Pixies, from Foo Fighters to Sublime, and from Motown to Nintendo™, 'the Very Small' walk the line between simple rocking out and a thoughtful exploration of many musical genres. 'the Very Small' just recently released their debut self-titled album and will be playing heavily up the east coast in spring and throughout the summer, kicking off their first tour of the year in early April.
