Dear Media Representatives,
Ten years is a milestone for the Washington, D.C. Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) and during that decade, DCIFF has emerged as a cultural force in the nation’s capital. Festival Director and Founder Carol Bidault envisioned that this festival would become a lasting annual gathering in the Washington, D.C. independent film community. And now, after ten years of bringing the best independent film to the nation’s capital and supporting new and existing filmmakers with its seminars, tradeshow and market, DCIFF has more impact than ever.
Over the past ten years DCIFF has been called “THE festival that brings independent film culture to Washington, D.C.” and “ambitious” by The Washington Post film critic Stephen Hunter. DCIFF has always strived to “raise the bar” for independent filmmaking and introduce new audiences to a new form of expression. Year after year DCIFF has brought films and the film community together to make lasting connections. True to its “independent” roots, this festival relies on dedicated volunteers to create a forum where artistry, creativity and originality unite for 11 days of innovative and inspiring cinema.
During the 2008 10th Annual DCIFF, March 6 through 16, audiences will enjoy the best of both worlds: independent AND international film. This blend of compelling films is what makes the DCIFF a unique and memorable experience. While it celebrates local artists DCIFF also showcases films from more than 13 countries and the United States. This year’s prevailing theme is “The Politics of Film” and World Cinema focus is on the Middle East, two highly controversial topics in this election year. This year over 100 films represent some of the best independent filmmaking in Washington, D.C. and beyond.
We invite your coverage of the film festival and related activities which represent the excitement, creativity and ambition known as DCIFF.
